David de Gea could be heading to Saudi Arabia.
“Steven Gerrard’s Saudi Professional League side Al Ittifaq are believed to be luring De Gea to the Middle East,” The Sun reported on Sunday.
For more than a decade, United have relied on “world-class” goalkeeper David De Gea in goal. De Gea has been recognized as the best goalkeeper in the Premier League (PL). Last season, he started all of United’s league games and won the Golden Glove for keeping a league-high 17 clean sheets.
As the years have passed, De Gea’s performance has been questioned. As he entered his 30s, his mistakes became more frequent, and it was argued that he didn’t fit into the tactics of manager Eric ten Hagg. De Gea, who had been a part of United’s glory days under Sir Alex Ferguson, eventually ended his association with the club after 12 years.
He looked for a new club. With nowhere to go, several clubs were interested in De Gea. Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Inter Milan were rumored to be linked. There was even an offer from Saudi Arabia, but nothing came of it.
Ultimately, De Gea started the season without a team. There have since been offers from several teams. Most recently, it was reported that Real Betis had made an approach, but it was only a rumor. De Gea hasn’t made any new comments about a move, mostly just updates on social media.
Meanwhile, Al Ittifaq has been linked with a move. Al Ittifa is managed by Steve Gerrard, who was once at the helm of Liverpool’s glory days. Jordan Henderson, Giorginio 안전놀이터 Wijnaldum, Demarai Gray, and other former European stars have opted for the oil money of the Middle East to play for Al Ittifaq.
However, De Gea has already turned down a move to the Middle East once before. The media outlet noted that when Al Nasr approached De Gea, he turned down the move because his wife didn’t want him to move to the Middle East. Al Nasr reportedly offered De Gea a whopping £500,000 a week in salary.
