Eric Dier’s transfer to Bayern Munich has been rumored to include Harry Kane.
“Munich have reached a personal agreement with Dyer and will make a formal offer to Tottenham Hotspur,” the British publication Football Insider reported on June 6 (KST). The Bavarians are looking to finalize the signing of Dier for a transfer fee of £4.3 million. Coach Thomas Tuchel has already spoken to Dier. Dier can play as a center back and as a number six. His versatility has shown me how he can be used in Munich,” the coach claimed.
“Kane pushed hard for the signing of Dyer. Kane and Dyer have been together at Tottenham since they were young and are very close. Kane gave him a taste of life in Germany and made a recommendation to Tuchel and the Munich board. Dyer has played 364 official games for Tottenham and only 198 minutes this season and is out of contract at the end of the season and completely out of the picture.”
Dier joined Tottenham in 2014 from Sporting. He played for 10 years and was part of Spurs’ renaissance. He played center back, right fullback, and defensive midfield, and became the leader of the defense after the departures of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld. At one point, he was good enough to earn an England cap, but he completely fell off the map last season and was the cause of a defensive collapse.
Coach Enze Postecoglou did not see Dyer as a first-team option. When he did make an appearance, it was as a substitute, and with Christian Romero and Mickey van der Penn both injured, he opted for full-backs Ben Davies and Emerson Royal in the starting lineup. He was also pipped to the post by 2005-born Ashley Phillips. With the likes of Radu Dragucin and Jean-Claude Todibeau said to be priority targets for center backs in the winter transfer window, Dyer was virtually certain to be released.
A surprise move to Munich was mentioned. Dier was also linked to Munich last summer. The Bavarians are in need of defenders. They have Kim Min-jae, Upamecano, and De Ligt, but the latter two center backs have been injured at different times, leaving Kim Min-jae as the only professional center back. Nusar Mazrawi and Leon Goretzka were used as alternatives, but they were limited. Kim Min-jae played at a grueling level. Upamecano made an early return, but was taken off early for administrative reasons.
De Ligt has returned to training and will be available for the second half after recovering during the break. Even with all three back, the German Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League, and UCL schedules make a center back signing essential.
Munich are serious about signing Dier. Charlie Eccleshire of The Athletic in England reported on Friday (June 5) that “Munich consider Dier a center-back option. Dyer is out of contract at the end of the season and is open to talks with other clubs. If Dyer, who is interested in Munich, were to move, he would join Harry Kane. The Bavarians have Kim Min-Jae, Upamecano and De Ligt, but Kim is away at the 2023 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup in Qatar.”
Britain’s Sky Sports also reported, “Dyer is on the Munich roster. He has already spoken to coach Thomas Tuchel about how he can be utilized. A verbal agreement has been reached and the transfer fee will be less than €5 million. The contract is expected to last until the summer of 2025. Dier is likely to be used as a number six or center back. We are looking at other options, but Trevor Chalobah is not one of them.”
Florian Plettenberg, a Munich source for Germany’s Sky Sports, said on social media on Friday: “Dier is on the list and a verbal agreement in principle has been reached. There is also talk of a permanent transfer, but nothing has been finalized yet.”
“Munich are exploring alternatives and coach Thomas Tuchel is pressing for a new signing to be finalized as soon as possible. Dier and Munich were linked last summer and have never lost contact. Tuchel and the Munich hierarchy have been discussing and analyzing Dyer for several days, and he is an interesting candidate because he can play all positions in defense. Dyer would also like to join Munich, but the final decision is still to be made.”
Transfer market pundit Fabrizio Romano, known for his signature phrase ‘Here we go’, added: “Dier is one of the 토토사이트 center-back options that Munich are considering and discussions were already held last summer. Tottenham Hotspur have left the door open for Dier to leave as soon as they sign a new center back. Munich will make a decision in the next few days,” he explained earlier.
If Kane were to come to Munich, a Kim-Min-Jae and Dyer combination would be possible. While he could be a defensive option, his defensive abilities are questionable, which could put more pressure on Kim Min-jae than he already has.
